Chapter 13: 81 Thieving

Original Title: The Omegawytch Chronicles: Overcome by temptation (pic)'
Original Release: 01 Mar 2003 06:31

My intentions were good, really they were… I had every intention of continuing my research into Magic damage. (I’ve already determined that Gauntlets of Chaos boost Fire Bolt damage by 40 per cent– I’ve posted details on the P2P Board– but more research needs to be done.) So I log in, finding Omegawytch where I left her in the south Ardougne bank…

And there’s a Paladin in the bank. Of course, I couldn’t resist picking his pocket. I checked the food supply: Half a load. “I’ll just pick his pocket until the food runs out, then go do Magic,” I told myself.

Myself replied, “Yeah… Right.”

The Paladin wanders out of the bank, and I chase him into the small room south of the bank, already occupied by a Knight. I pick the Pal’s pocket until I’m out of food. I leave the room, carefully closing the door behind me, and return to the bank: “Shall I withdraw runes, and do Magic research, or food, and pick that Pal some more?” I asked myself.

Myself replied, “Why waste your time and mine asking silly questions?”

I picked the Pal’s pocket until he fell to the flailing fists of fury– an all too short time. I only managed about 150 Chaos runes and 12k GP from that Paladin. Ah, for the Good Old Days, before Omegawytch’s Attack and Strength ballooned to 12 and 17, as a result of mistakes and completing the Hero quest. Back in those days, a couple of weeks ago, I could Pick a Pal 400 to 500 times before he would succumb…

Oh, well… I topped off food and found a Hero, which I chased until he ended up in the room south of the bank, joining the poor Knight, who hadn’t yet managed to find the door. Carefully closing the door behind me, I started working on the Hero, but with only fair success; Heroes catch me much more frequently than Paladins.

I was just thinking I’d be better off finding another Paladin, when one appeared at the door! Taking a chance, I opened it. Luck was with me– the Pal came in! Carefully closing the door again, I started alternating between Hero and Paladin. (By this time, the Knight is suffering a massive rejection complex.) Wow– this is Pickpocket Heaven! The XP, GP, and runes were piling up.

Of course, it was too good to last. A level 74 named Ran Harry came into the room, not bothering to close the door behind himself, and started trade-bombing me. I continued picking pockets until he announced he wanted to buy Omegawytch’s Dragon Medium.

“Not for sale,” I told him.

That wasn’t good enough for Ran Harry, who kept demanding that I look at his offer. I headed for the door to close it, but the Hero beat me there and took off running. I gave chase… and so did Ran Harry, who inscribed his name in BIG block letters with a BIG crayon on the Long And Growing List Of People For Whom I Will Not Go Out Of My Way To Do Favors (LAGLOPFWIWNGOOMWTDF, for short), by attacking and killing the Hero– all the while demanding that I sell him Omega’s helm

Back to the trapped Paladin. By the time he fell to the flailing fists, I had accumulated more than 350 Chaos runes from the two Pals, a few Blood and Death from the Hero, and a great pile of GP. It’s good to be a thief…

And here’s the Hero, respawned again. I chased, and started picking…

81 Thieving

In six weeks of Membership, Omegawytch has now matched 56warrior’s Thieving level. “This is a good time to take a break from Thieving and do magic,” I told myself.

Myself replied, “Yeah… Right.”
